Sundling and Klæbo win Konnerud sprint

Jonna Sundling (SWE, Fischer **) took the freestyle sprint victory in the 10.000-inhabitant town of Konnerud, just outside Drammen. Linn Svahn (SWE, Fischer **) finished third. In men's race, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (NOR, Fischer ***) succeeded one again, the "Kongen av Drammen" Eirik Brandsdal (NOR, Fischer ***) came in third.

In the final of Konnerud, a suburb of Drammen, first Kristine Stavås Skistad (NOR) led the race. Linn Svahn and Jonna Sundling skied behind the Norwegian, who had left Oberwiesenthal disappointed. In the climb before the finish, Nadine Fähndrich (SUI) went on the outside track and there she managed to take the lead. With a small gap and a smile, she was the first into the descend to the stadium, but the Swedes didn't give up and came closer and closer. Jonna Sundling took much more speed out of the downhill and the last corner and was able to claim the victory. Linn Svahn secured third place. Anamarija Lampic (SLO, Fischer ***) crashed after the downhill, but today more than fifth place would not have been possible anyway. "It was very difficult and not so easy to ski in the deep snow. So I am glad that I made it to the final and won. We were very strong today, it is always nice when the teammates are also very fast", said Jonna Sundling.

The men's final was filled with extremely strong athletes, as is often the case in Drammen with a national quota with five Norwegians plus Alexander Bolshunov (RUS) - places one to seven in the prologue. After a false start, Håvard Solås Taugbøl (NOR) went with full speed into the second attempt of starting the final and his compatriots willingly let him take the lead. Eirik Brandsdal attacked in the last climb with Johannes Høsflot Klæbo at his ski ends, both of whom were able to take the lead in front of their teammate. In the final sprint, Klæbo took the next win, Eirik Brandsdal, the "Kongen av Drammen", was finishing third with another podium in Drammen in free style and on a new track. "It was a very tough race with a lot of changes of direction, so you had to position yourself in the front, but in the end it was worth pushing hard in the last 200 meters and winning here in Konnerud", said Johannes Høsflot Klæbo. "It was like wading through a river in the early afternoon, you had to find the right track on the home stretch that many athletes had already used. Now the conditions were better." Sindre Bjørnestad Skar (NOR, Fischer ***) took fourth place ahead of Bolshunov and Erik Valnes (NOR, Fischer ***), who was far behind since the last climb.
