Haaser had also celebrated his debut on the World Cup podium exactly two years ago at the same venue with second place in the super-G. The 26-year-old repeated this performance with a furious run and was only beaten by Swiss athlete Marco Odermatt and left Aleksander Aamodt Kilde behind him.
"It suits me very well when it's technically demanding. When it's bumpy and icy, I don't dislike that either. That's why I love coming back to Bormio every year," said a delighted Haaser in an ORF interview after the race. Odermatt was out of reach. "Odi has set a new record again, hats off to him," said the man from Achensee without envy.
