What ski length do I need for cross-country skis, touring skis etc.?

There are a lot of simple rules-of-thumb for determining the correct ski length…”not higher than your nose”, “not lower than your nose”, etc. Some of these may actually be helpful, but there are other key factors involved in finding the correct length of a ski. The length calculation is also entirely different for touring, cross-country, freeride, and other types of skis. Kids’ skis are also a completely different matter.
