No limits: Iivo Niskanen

Iivo Niskanen, finnish cross-country expert starts his World Cup career in 2011. 2014 he reached 8th place in Toblach over 15 km classic and got his first world cup points. Therefore he was nominated for the Olympic team in Sochi and finished 4th in the 15 km classic, missing a medal by just 0.2 seconds. Four years later in PyeongChang 2018, the time had come: Olympic gold in his favorite discipline, the 50 kilometers in the classic technique.

 

 When did you start skiing?

When I was 6-years old i think.

What was your dream job when you were a child?

My dream was to become a farmer.

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pasta with meat sauce.

Favorite quote or personal motto?

”No limits”

What are your favorite hobbies (besides skiing, of course)?

My favorite thing to do besides skiing is to ride my trotting horses.

Where have you not been that you want to go to?

To the trotting race Elitloppet in Solvalla in Sweden. It is probably the biggest trotting race in the world.

What was your biggest breakthrough in your ski career?

Probably the 2014 season, with U23 gold and the Olympic Games in Sochi.

What are the top 3 things we should know about you?

I own 5 horses and have the driving license to race with them.

I am not an early bird in the mornings.

Pretty boring, but I hate loosing.

What advice would you give you athletes at the beginning of their career?

Dont skip the speed sessions.

 What does #livetoski mean to you?

A hobby that became a job. Still enjoy it.
