Jarl Magnus Riiber triumphs in mass start

After his success in yesterday's nordic combined sprint, Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) succeded also in the first mass start race since 2009. Eric Frenzel (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished second again.

After the athletes wanted more variety, the FIS decided to re-enter the mass start in the World Cup program for the first time since 2009. The pace in the 10-kilometer cross-country race increased from kilometer to kilometer. In the third of four laps, Magnus Krog (NOR) took the lead and opened many gaps in the chasing group. Eric Frenzel finished third, ten seconds back. Jarl Magnus Riiber came in fifth with 26 seconds backlog. Magnus Krog is the leader after the mass start with 0.0 points before the ski jumping, all other athletes start with negative points on the hill, to which the jumping points were added.

In reverse order of the cross-country skiing result, the athletes started in the jumping, so that Riiber had to jump as the first of the absolute favorites. With the clearly longest jump at 100 meters he took a big lead, which his competitors were not able to beat. With 95 meters and eight points behind, the second place went again to Eric Frenzel. Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Johannes Rydzek (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) moved up from ninth and tenth to fourth and fifth. Vinzenz Geiger (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished seventh ahead of Mario Seidl (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Jørgen Graabak (NOR, Fischer).
