Believe in yourself and have fun: Sarah Dreier

In her youth, Sarah Dreier discovered the fun of ski mountaineering and quickly realized that she had the potential to improve her performance. The friendly athlete, who lives in Neukirchen am Großvenediger, is an essential member of the Austrian National Ski Mountaineering Team and won the overall Vertical World Cup in the 22|23 season.

How did you get started in ski mountaineering?

I did my first ski tour with my godmother and godfather when I was 16 years old. I recognized very quickly that this sport thrilled me. For me it was clear: I want to go faster and further with my skis.

What do you like to do most in your free time?

I am a very social person and therefore I like to meet with friends. I also like cooking and spending time with my family.

What does a morning before a race look like for you?

Before each race, I always try to have a good breakfast. A honey bread and a cup of tea cannot be missing. I always listen to music when I warm up. I try not to be nervous about all the hustle and bustle at the start and try to go into myself.

How important is mental strength in ski mountaineering?

In ski mountaineering, you must push your physical and mental limits. You must be able to torture yourself. But the most important thing is to believe in yourself.

What advice would you give to young athletes at the beginning of their career?

I think that the most important thing in ski mountaineering is to have fun. If you develop a passion somewhere, you are usually also very good at what you do. I hope that many young women will become enthusiastic about ski mountaineering in the future.

What does #livetoski mean to you?

For me, #livetoski means years of great cooperation. I am very grateful to be part of the Fischer family. I also appreciate the fact that Fischer is an Austrian company and that I can rely on Fischer and its employees.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

The goals for the new season are to win a medal at the European Championships and a top performance at my home World Cup in Schladming. Of course, I would like to build on the success of last season, although that could be very difficult since I had a dream season in the winter of 2022/23. I also hope to get through the season healthy and injury-free.
