Transalp+ 2023 Tour Diary

Higher, harder, steeper, tougher! That's what the tour Transalp+ 2023 is all about.

Three participants set out together with our team of filmmakers, photographers, guides and staff to find the steepest gullies and the most difficult routes! In this tour diary you can follow what the crew experiences on the road.

Day 1: Kick Off, Factory Tour & Move into the Camping Vans

The first day of the Transalp+ was a purely organizational one. Meeting point was in Ried and the start made a kick off meeting with the whole team, as well as the material distribution of all the equipment of our partners. This year, in addition to the latest Fischer Transalp touring skis and poles from One Way, participants will be equipped with gloves from ESKA, clothing from Löffler, goggles and sunglasses by Julbo and avalanche backpacks from ABS. Many thanks to the partners of the tour.
This was followed by a tour of our production facility in Ried with valuable insights into alpine ski production. The enthusiasm of one or the other participant was obvious.

Then it was finally time to move into the great motorhomes that Caravaning-Info provided for this tour! These vans allow us to react flexibly to the weather and snow situation and plan accordingly spontaneously. Many thanks to Caravaning-Info for supporting this project, let's see if the participants want to move out at all at the end of the tour.
After everything was loaded, the three motorhomes could finally set off.

The first destination: Planica, Slovenia.

Day 2: Kugy Couloir, Planica

The official start of the Transalp+ 2023 was the first tour, to the legendary Kury Couloir near Planica/Slovenia. The weather was clear, but very windy and cold which led to the fact that few people were on the road and the group had the colouir to itself. In the sunshine and in good conditions, the group was able to enjoy the descent before enjoying a well-deserved beer or two in the valley. Still in the evening the way led to the next campsite.

Day 3: Plešivec

The second day of the tour led the group from Log Pod Mangartom out to Plešivec. Already the approach from Bovec was very adventurous, over unpaved winding roads and paths. The local farmer did not like the parking of the vans, so we the group had to change the parking positions. When he asked where the plan leads the group and heard Plešivec as the answer, he replied quite incredulously that he had never seen anyone go up there in winter. Despite partially only sporadically paved routes, the tour was very successful until the filmer sank his drone towards the end of the tour and the entire group had to start searching. In the evening, another long drive to the next tour location awaited the group.

Day 4: Menschenfresserrinne aka. Men Eater Couloir

Well, name is program. The Menschenfresserrinne was definitely another highlight of this tour.

But let's start from the beginning. After a long second day of touring in Slovenia, the crew still had a long drive to Italy ahead of them, the exact destination: the Sextner Dolomites! Because there is the legendary Menschenfresserrinne ("Man Eater Couloir"), which can be climbed from the Fischleintal/Val Fiscalina.

Once again the group started early to have enough time for the big round. And it was better that way. The Menschenfresserrinne directly under the Hochbrunnerschneid turned out to be a long, narrow and steep gully that demanded everything from the participants and the team. And one or the other was ultimately also eaten and landed on the seat of his pants.

After just over 17km and 1,800 meters of altitude, and with the efforts of the previous days, the crew deserved to perhaps take it easy the next day.

Day 5: Refugio Auronzo

The plan for the last touring day was to climb up to the famous Drei Zinnen and to round one of these three Zinnen. However, the weather put a spanner in the group's works and the decision not to risk anything in these difficult conditions on the last day of the tour was certainly the best one.
So the group turned around at Refugio Auronzo and skied back to the base at Lao d'Antorno to focus on a different kind of activity: A big Kaiserschmarrn party in honor of birthday kid Quirin! The birthday boy himself stood in the top-equipped kitchen of the Camping Vans and conjured up a homemade highlight for the group. A cozy and appropriate end to a successful Tour Transalp+ 2023.
