Stefan Kraft in headwind in Sapporo

In difficult conditions, Stefan Kraft (AUT, Fischer) triumphed clearly in Sapporo (JPN) and extended his lead in the overall World Cup.

On a hill that the Austrian has always liked, Stefan Kraft also caught perfect upwind conditions and won with a big lead over Stephan Leyhe (GER) and local hero Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN). After the first round with increasing snowfall, the Austrian was 14 points ahead of Kubacki (POL) and Karl Geiger (GER, Fischer) after his jump to 139 meters, in the final the sun shone from the sky for the last jumpers. The other athletes did not have reason to shine: The gusty headwind had subsided significantly, so that many athletes fell behind after their second jump - including Karl Geiger, who had bad luck again and had to jump with almost still air. Exactly on Stefan Kraft's second jump, the strong headwind was back, so that after another 139 meters he won by 21 points: "I love this hill, I'm always jumping well in Sapporo and today's competition was my best this winter. I saw, that the jumpers before me didn't have good conditions and I then had some headwind. I had a bit of luck and perfect jumps, everything worked out well for me today." Peter Prevc (SLO, Fischer), 13th after the first round, also had perfect conditions in the final and used it to improve to fourth place ahead of Karl Geiger. Michael Hayböck (AUT, Fischer) finished eighth ahead of Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer).
