Marita Kramer celebrates her first World Cup victory

Marita Kramer (AUT, Fischer) secured the first victory of her career at the World Cup in Sapporo (JPN). Maren Lundby (NOR, Fischer) finished second.

The Austrian team has a new winner! After places 10, 9 and 15 this winter, the Dutch-born Sara Marita Kramer made it onto the top podium. The 18-year-old, who came to Austria as a child and tried Nordic combined in her youth, was already in the lead after 131 meters in her first jump. In the final, the inrun length was shortened twice after long jumps among the last ten jumpers with less tailwind - among others directly before Marita Kramer. The young Austrian did not let that deter her, however, and with 135 meters she jumped only four meters shorter than Maren Lundby, who took second place and improved her own hill record by four meters. "I still can’t believe it. I didn’t expect to win, but I had good feeling at the hill. I showed two good jumps. For tomorrow I will try to repeat this. It's my first time in Sapporo and really enjoy jumping here", Kramer said. Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (AUT, Fischer) and Chiara Hölzl (AUT, Fischer), who also celebrated her first victory this season, took fifth and sixth place, so that along with third-placed Eva Pinkelnig (AUT) four Austrians made it among the top six. Katharina Althaus (GER, Fischer) increased from 118 to 132 meters and finished seventh - but she also had two gates more inrun length than the winner. Nika Kriznar (SLO, Fischer) finished eighth ahead of Yuki Ito (JPN, Fischer).
