France's biathlon girls celebrate sovereign relay victory

Julia Simon, Anais Bescond (both FRA), Justine Braisaz (FRA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Anais Chevalier (FRA) celebrated a sovereign victory with the women's relay in Ruhpolding (GER). Second place went to Norway with Synnøve Solemdal (NOR), Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, Tiril Eckhoff (both NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Marte Olsbu Røiseland (NOR) ahead of the German quartet consisting of Vanessa Hinz (GER), Laura Dahlmeier , Franziska Preuss and Denise Herrmann (all GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

It was almost a start-finish victory for the French quartet: Already Julia Simon was able to escape from the others together with Dorothea Wierer (ITA), Anais Bescond extended the lead, while the Italians fell far behind later. Norway and Germany emerged as the first pursuers, but Denise Herrmann always needed more spare rounds than the Norwegian. She always had to try to close the gap to Marte Olsbu and despite her first class skiing performance, it was not enough to catch up with Norway. In the stadium, Herrmann was celebrated for third place, as had previously done Chevalier and Olsbu. Fourth place went to Sweden's Anna Magnusson, Mona Brorsson (both SWE), Linn Persson (SWE, Fischer skis and bindings) and Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) with a lot of gap to the podium and also to the Russians Anastasiia Morozova (RUS, Fischer skis and bindings), Svetlana Mironova (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), Irina Starykh (RUS) and Ekaterina Yurlova-Percht (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) in fifth position.
