Norway and France win first biathlon races

The biathlon World Cup on Polkljuka (SLO) began with victories from Norway with Thekla Brun-Lie (NOR, Fischer) and Lars Helge Birkeland (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) in the Single Mixed Relay and France with Anais Bescond (FRA), Justine Braisaz (FRA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), Martin Fourcade and Simon Desthieux (both FRA) in the mixed relay.

After the Norwegian duo dropped behind in the first part of the competition with spare time from Thekla Brun-Lie, Lars Helge Birkeland brought the team quickly to the top and the two Norwegians were able to fight for the victory until the end. At the last shooting Birkeland got the decisive advantage over the Austrians Lisa Theresa Hauser (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Simon Eder (AUT), whom he was able to keep to the finish. At the same time as the two teams, Ukrainians Anastasiya Merkushyna (UKR) and Artem Tyshchenko (UKR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) had come to the final shooting, but Tyshchenko had to use the only spare round in their competition and thus they finished only third. Fourth went to Anais Chevalier and Antonin Guigonnat (both FRA) ahead of Swedes Linn Persson (SWE, Fischer) and Fredrik Lindström (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).
