Work hard, play hard: Ziga Pance

Žiga Pance is the first local hero to represent Fischer Hockey in the international Austrian Hockey League ICEHL. The 34-year-old hockey player started his professional career in Ljubljana, Slovenia, playing for Olimpija Ljubljana first team during the 2005/06 season. The Slovenian national team player wears jersey number 13 and plays offense position as a wingman or center. In his career Ziga has participated in 13 World Championships and 2 Olympic games. Žiga lives in Ljubljana and is a father of two children boy and a girl.

When did you start playing Ice Hockey?

I started playing hockey when I was 4 years old in Ljubljana. At that point hockey was very popular in Slovenia. When started my hockey path I got a lot of support from my parents.

What are your favorite hobby beside Ice Hockey?

In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family. As a contrast to playing ice hockey, I also like to spend time on the computer, and playing tennis and soccer.

How does the training look like in summer, in the off season?

My training is a mix between weightlifting, CrossFit, cardio, and sprint sessions. I also do mobility training for my shoulders and knees to prevent injuries. To improve my progress, I have a personal trainer who helps me with my training plans.

What was your best moment in your career so far?

For sure it was the winning in the Austrian Championship with in 2013/14. With HC Bozen we won the championship against EC Red Bull Salzburg. On the international stage for sure the two participations at the Olympic games with the Slovenian national team in 2014 and 2018.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto?

Work hard, play hard!

What is your pre match ritual?

Before the game I do my normal warm up routine with stretching and some exercises on ice. I always put the left skate on first because otherwise it feels wrong for me. One more thing: Before the match starts, I am one of the last players to get on ice.

What are your goals for the upcoming season?

There is always a room for improvement. It is important to make the playoffs and, afterwards, everything is possible.

What does it mean to you to work together with Fischer?

For me it is an honor to be a part of Fischer Hockey organization. Together with Fischer Hockey we want to reach out to all hockey players, professional or recreational. Looking forward representing Fischer brand in the hockey world.
