Roman Furger claims victory at Engadiner Skimarathon

Roman Furger (SUI, Fischer skis and boots) decided his home race in the sprint and claimed victory at the Engadiner Skimarathon already for the third time after 2012 and 2016. On the women’s side, Chelsea Holmes (USA, Fischer skis and boots) only had to admit defeat to the two Swiss women Nadine Fähndrich and Rahel Imoberdorf (both SUI).

Roman Furger skied consistently in the leading group and put himself in a good position for the final sprint in time. In the short downhill before the finish, the Swiss was able to pull out a few metres ahead and never let anything burn on the finish straight. “I had superfast skis today and am overjoyed to have won here for the third time," said the glowing winner. One second behind Martin Collet (FRA, Fischer skis and boots) secured second place.

On the women’s side, Chelsea Holmes only had to admit defeat to the two Swiss women Nadine Fähndrich and Rahel Imoberdorf and took third place. Only 0.2 seconds behind Maria Gräfnings (SWE, Fischer skis and boots) crossed the finishing line in fourth place and in the FIS Worldloppet Cup overall ranking as equal to Aurelie Dabudyk. Unfortunately, the latter had an individual victory more and so the likeable Swede had to settle for second place. Her conclusion: "It was my big goal this season to win the FIS Worldloppet Cup - it's a pity that in the end it's only 0.2 seconds, which separates me from this goal, but I'm very satisfied with my performance in itself."
