Never give up - Pavel Jekel

Pavel Jekel is goalkeeper in the first league in the Czech Republic. He started playing ice hockey as a 4-year-old at his home club HC Kometa in Brno. His breakthrough came in the 17l18 season in the Hockey Champions League. Currently, the goalie plays with the club Horácká Slavia Třebíč in the first league in the Czech Republic. His goal is clear: he wants to move up to the Czech Extraliga. To compensate, he uses his free time to spend a lot of time with his family.

What does it mean to you to cooperate with Fischer?

Cooperating with Fischer is a new experience for me, and I am super excited for the upcoming season! It´s important for me to perform strongly in the upcoming season with the Fisher stick. According to me the stick has an incredible balance and weight ratio, giving me best possible opportunity to perform on the highest level.

 

When did you start playing Ice Hockey?

I started playing hockey in Brno in Czech Republic when I was 4 years old. I have followed the footsteps of my brother who already played hockey and was my role model. As we all know for most kids in Czech Republic being a hockey player is a childhood dream.

What are your favorite hobbies beside Ice Hockey?

Besides playing hockey I spend most of my time with my wife and my son. In addition, we spend a lot of time doing outdoor family activities.

What does the training look like in summer, in the off season?

In the off season we have 2 months combined outdoor, gym, and on ice trainings. This is because ice hockey players need to be on ice entire year around to be prepared for the main season.

How often do you train per week on ice in the main season?

For us to maintain physical conditioning, coordination, and tactical awareness on the ice we have additional 7 practices and 2-3 games per week.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto?

Never give up.

What are your next goals for the future?

My goal is to be a starter in the Czech Extra League. At the moment I have two-year contract with HC Trebic in 1st Czech League, but my plan is to compete on the highest possible hockey level in Czech Republic.

What is your pre match ritual?

30 minutes before the game starts, I normally do my usual warm up routine which includes stretching and coordination exercises. In addition,I listen to music before the game, which helps me to prepare and focus on the game 100%.

If you need to change your position, would you go forward or defence?

I would love to play as a forward and score goals for my team.

What is your signature move?

My signature move is called the scorpion save, where I lift my leg of the ice to prevent the puck going into the goal.
