Maren Lundby triumphs in Sapporo

After third place in yesterday's competition, Maren Lundby (NOR, Fischer) won the second competition at the World Cup in Sapporo (JPN). Katharina Althaus (GER, Fischer) finished second.

After not having a chance in the first round yesterday in bad wind, but nevertheless reached a podium result, Maren Lundby showed her full strength again today. In perfect conditions with headwind and blue sky, the Norwegian was the best in both rounds and in the final her jump to 133.5 meters was the longest of the day. Maren Lundby celebrated her first win of the season, the 14th World Cup victory in all. "It feels great to stand on top of the podium again, especially my second jump was really good today. I'm very happy. Now we are looking forward to the competitions in Zao next weekend, our team is as strong as never before", she said. With better jumps than yesterday, Katharina Althaus was second on the podium and defended her lead in the overall World Cup. Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (AUT, Fischer) missed the podium this time in fifth place, the second-best Norwegian after Maren Lundby, Anna Odine Strøm (NOR, Fischer), took seventh place. Elena Runggaldier (ITA, Fischer) finished ninth.
