Mäkäräinen wins second pursuit race of the season

Kaisa Mäkäräinen (FIN, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) secured victory in the pursuit race in Hochfilzen (AUT) like last week on Pokljuka (SLO). Paulina Fialkova (SVK, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) came in second.

Kaisa Mäkäräinen was unbeatable also with three misses at the shooting range: The Finn is currently flying from one victory to the next - or just narrowly beaten, as in yesterday's sprint. She had to invest a lot to get back to Paulina Fialkova before the fourth shooting after a total of two penalties, the Slovak again made a very good race. Both had another mistake and Monika Hojnisz (POL, Fischer skis and bindings) was the first to start into her final lap. 800 meters before the finish line, the Polish was caught, Mäkäräinen attacked and pulled away from Wierer (ITA) and Fialkova, who fought for second place. The Slovak attacked again successfully in front of the stadium, so she could celebrate second place. Monika Hojnisz took fourth place after several glances over her shoulder ahead of Anastasiya Kuzmina (SVK, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Federica Sanfilippo (ITA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished seventh with the fastest isolated pursuit time after 19th place in the sprint.

In the pursuit of the men local hero Julian Eberhard (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) missed a podium because of too many penalties. While the athletes on the podium hit the targets very well, he missed three targets and finished fourth after overtaking three opponents on the final lap. Rank seven went to Alexander Loginov (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Johannes Thingnes Bø (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) missed another victory with six penalties and one minute gap. He finished ninth ahead of French Florent Claude (BEL, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) starting under Belgium flag, who had already shown a very good sprint race.
