German mixed team unbeatable

German ski jumpers Katharina Althaus, Markus Eisenbichler (both GER, Fischer), Juliane Seyfarth (GER) and Karl Geiger (GER, Fischer) secured another gold medal at the end of the World Championships in Seefeld (AUT). After a thrilling duel with Germany, silver went to Eva Pinkelnig (AUT), Philipp Aschenwald, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz and Stefan Kraft (all AUT, Fischer). Bronze went to Anna Odine Strøm (NOR, Fischer), Robert Johansson (NOR), Maren Lundby (NOR, Fischer) and Andreas Stjernen (NOR).

In the first round, the Austrians were mostly in the lead until Stefan Kraft showed a bad jump in bad wind and shortly afterwards a strong Karl Geiger put the German team in the lead, although he was a bit early at the take-off. In the final, the German quartet could no longer be beat with jumps of 103, 107, 103 and 107 meters, with which they took at least 20 points compared to all other teams. "I like this hill, it's fun to jump here with this audience. Karle is so cool and totally relaxed, I knew, he will bring it home", said Katharina Althaus after the success. Markus Eisenbicher was satisfied at least with his final jump, in the first round he had lost 13 points: "At my first jump I was a bit early at the take-off, but I stayed relaxed and in the second round I did better." Karl Geiger, who was a very confident final jumper today, said: "I just wanted to make a clever jump and I succeeded in that. After my touchdown I heard the ausdience shouting and I thought, that's a good sign." The Austrians took silver with 22 points behind ahead of the Norwegians, who could never intervene in the duel for gold. Especially Maren Lundby and Andreas Stjernen quarreled with their jumps, so that even Slovenia's Ursa Bogataj (SLO), Ziga Jelar (SLO, Fischer), Nika Kriznar (SLO) and Peter Prevc (SLO, Fischer) came close and finished fourth with just eight points behind. Also the Japanese Yuki Ito, Yukiya Sato, Sara Takanashi and Ryoyu Kobayashi (all JPN) missed the medal only by ten points.
