Fischer Grant: Highland Park High School

The Saint Paul, Minn.-based Highland Park Ski Team’s philosophy is three fold: to “Create a competitive environment for skiers to be able to improve as much as possible,” to “Create a positive and fun team environment and enjoy our time skiing with each other,” and to “Create lifelong skiers.”

And to help support their mission, Fischer Skis has awarded the ski team with $3,500 in Fischer Nordic gear that will go toward bringing new skiers from Highland Park middle and high schools into the Nordic Skiing fold. While the Highland Park Ski Team focuses on race training, growing the community of passionate skiers is a top precept for the organization and this grant will help achieve that goal through providing gear to those who cannot afford it.

The Highland Park Ski team is a race training organization that aims to prep Junior Varsity and Varsity competitors for state championships and beyond through their rigorous training program. Practice for the Highland Park Ski Team ranges from four days a week to five days depending on the youth category, and is geared both toward getting new skiers immersed in the sport and also toward high level athlete development for participants looking to further their competition goals.

This training pays off, with the girls team taking home the state championship in 2020, the boys team nabbing third, and one member of the Highland Park Ski Team individually claiming the title of state champion for the 2019/2020 winter season.

With the help of Fischer Skis, these accolades will hopefully continue to grow in the coming seasons with the help of increased access to top-of-the-line ski gear for new participants in the program.
