Work so hard that everything you do looks simple: Jarl Magnus Riiber

The Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber describes himself as a veteran but remains one of the best in Nordic combined. From a young age, Jarl followed the World Cup and always knew he wanted to become a professional athlete. Until the season 23l24 he has already won the overall World Cup four times and is one of the all-time best with the most World Cup victories in his discipline.

When did you start skiing?

I started skiing when I was 3 years old. We had a small cabin that was a 2-hour hike from our home in Holmenkollen and we usually skied there every weekend for many years.

What was your dream job when you were a child?

Probably to become a professional ski athlete. That was my first thought when I saw the World Cup on television when I was younger!

What was your biggest breakthrough in your ski career?

I would say my first World Cup overall victory. This was my biggest goal as an athlete and achieving that goal was definitely the best experience I have had.

What are your favorite hobbies?

To be outside hiking in the mountains with family and making moments we remember!

Where have you not been that you want to go to?

I think skiing in Japan is something I want to try out, both for the World Cup and in the mountains.

What are the top 3 things we should know about you?

I am very passionate about what I do.

I'm not motivated about winning but more focused on all the details that make results happen.

I have been doing Nordic combined every day since I was 4 years old and debuted on the World Cup when I was 16, so I guess I can call myself a veteran.

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

That's easy, pizza!

What is your favorite quote or personal motto?

Work so hard that everything you do looks simple!

What advice would you give a young athlete at the beginning of his/her competitive career?

Everything comes from the preparation going into the weekend, so on competition day, it's very important to be able to show the normal level you have inside. That makes it easier to enjoy the competition and makes your performance even better over time.

What does #livetoski mean to you?

It reminds me that I am living my childhood dream.
