Novie McCabe is an American cross-country who had her World Cup debut in 2021. Her preferred skiing discipline is Classic Mass Start – however she made her first ever top ten result in the World Cup in January 2022, climbing up Alpe Cermis in Val di Fiemme, Italy, taking 7th place.  At her first Olympics 2022 in Beijing, she finished 24th in the 10 km classic, 18th in the 30 km mass start race in free technique, and sixth with the relay.

At what age did you start skiing?

About as soon as I could walk.

What year did you officially sign with Fischer?

I signed officially 2021

What was your biggest breakthrough in your ski career?

I think probably getting a top 10 at Lahti Junior Worlds and making the USST.

What is your favorite ski/boot from Fischer?

My favorite Fischer product is the Speedmax Classic ski, because it is super light, stable and easy to kick - and the Speedmax Cassic boot is super comfy with a soft heel but also lightweight and supportive.

How does the brand affect you?

I have always skied on Fischer and have a lot of confidence in the skis and gear, which gives me a lot of confidence when I compete!

Is there a particular Fischer product connected to a story you’re like to tell?

I remember getting my first hole skis when I was younger and being so stoked, they just made me feel so fast and still make me feel fast today!

What is your personal motto?

Embrace the journey!

What are your favorite hobbies besides skiing?

I am currently going to school so most of my time not skiing is spent doing that. Otherwise, I like to eat good food and am hoping to spend some more time learning how to cook good food in the future.

Where have you not been that you want to go to?

I would love to go to New Zealand.

How do you train for skiing during the offseason?

Lots of dryland, usually a mix of rollerskiing, running, and biking. But I also try to be flexible with trying out some new training modes during the summer.

What was your most humbling moment?

Probably racing my first World Cup event last year, it was crazy to race with so many amazing skiers and also just see how high the level of competition is.

What was your most memorable moment while competing?

Racing the relay at the Olympics. It was pretty crazy and inspiring to be part of a team with lots of girls I have always looked up to.

What are your Future goals/dreams?

I want to keep working to be more consistent on the World Cup, and have long-term goals of winning championship medals, or at least being in a place where I feel like I can fight for those medals.

What was your most important role model while growing up?

I would say Sadie Bjornsen.

Who do you consider to be a current mentor or role model?

My mom and all of the great coaches I get to work with!

What advice would you give young athletes at the beginning of their competitive career?

I think I would just tell them that there is no perfect path to achieving your goals, and everyone is going to be doing things slightly differently. So, the most important thing is to believe in the way that you are trying to improve, and this is for sure something I still need to work on!
