Tiril Eckhoff wins in the constant rain in Le Grand Bornand

Tiril Eckhoff (NOR, Fischer ***) coped best with the adverse conditions in Le Grand Bornand (FRA) and won the sprint ahead of Justine Braisaz (FRA, Fischer ***).

In the pouring rain, the biathletes had to complete their sprint, it was "the worst weather I've ever raced in", said Franziska Preuß (GER, Fischer ***), who was ranked twelfth. Others were not bothered by the weather and even used the conditions to win. "I'm not really good at water skiing, but I think it's Norwegian weather. I'm used to it and it wasn't too bad for me. But I saw Dorothea Wierer (ITA) in the penalty loops, she seemed to have more problems", said Tiril Eckhoff. The Norwegian had to go into the penalty loop once, but was still the fastest in skiing and won with a six-second lead over the clean shooting Justine Braisaz. Svetlana Mironova (RUS, Fischer ***) was fourth and missed to realize another podium like in Hochfilzen. Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer ***) was the only one who could keep up with Tiril Eckhoff in skiing and finished fifth with two penalties. Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (NOR, Fischer ***) came in sixth ahead of Iryna Kryuko (BLR, Fischer ***). Olena Pidhrushna (UKR, Fischer ***) took ninth place ahead of Paulina Fialkova (SVK, Fischer ***).
