In the calmness lies the strength: Karl Geiger

Karl Geiger, the German ski jumper, first began competing on the World Cup in 2012. Since then he has won medals at both the Olympic Games, his first in PyeongChang, and the FIS World Nordic Ski Championships. He also has multiple medals at the FIS World Ski Flying Championships. Since he is six years old the Oberstdorf native competes for home club, SC 1906 Oberstdorf and is currently one of the most important athletes in the German National Team.

When did you start ski jumping?

I started ski jumping between the ages of 6 and 7.

What was the biggest breakthrough in your ski jumping career?

I think taking part and performing good in team jumping at the 2018 Olympics. Winning the silver medal there really gave me a boost.

Which is your favorite hill and why?

That's hard to say. I really like the hill in Lahti because it's incredibly to jump there because of the hill profile.

What kind of training do you enjoy the most?

Training on the hill and also strength training.

What kind of training do you have to overcome?

Core training can be very tough at times.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Meeting friends, paragliding and everything that is fun ;)

What are the 3 most important things to know about you?

I am analytically inclined, like to have a clear structure and usually approach my tasks step by step.

Where have you not yet been, and would you like to go?

To South America.

What advice would you give to a young athlete?

Think about where you want to go and what you are currently missing. Then come up with a plan and start to work on it.

#livetoski is what I do. I live and love ski jumping, the snow and the feeling that comes with it in my sport.
