Siebenhofer third in the Gröden Downhill
This year's successful run for the athletes of the Fischer Race Family was continued first on Tuesday by Styrian racer Siebenhofer who clinched third place in the replacement Downhill race for Val d'Isère after excellent times in training. The 27-year-old, who had won two of the three training runs on the Saslong, earned herself a place on the podium again three years after her "podium premiere" in 2015.
"I crossed the finish line and was incredibly satisfied because I'd handled everything so well in my opinion," explained Siebenhofer immediately after the race.
Schmidhofer second in Super G
After a top-ten place in the Downhill, Nici Schmidhofer went on to finish second in the Super G in Gröden, which she shared with Tina Weirather.
"Perhaps I need a bad performance in the Downhill from time to time so it works out better in Super G. It was awesome for me today because it became faster the whole time," explained Schmidhofer after her race. "Plus I have new boots which I felt really comfortable with in the Super G," said the Styrian racer, who missed out on victory by a mere 1.2m despite trouble with a big toe.
The successful Fischer duo Schmidhofer/Siebenhofer even had a double cause for celebration in the Super G as Ramona Siebenhofer also had a top-ten finish in this race.
Fanara and Yule fifth in Saalbach-Hinterglemm
In the men's Giant Slalom in Saalbach-Hinterglemm it was Thomas Fanara who added a fifth place to the Fischer Family's results. The French racer managed to leap from eleventh place to within reach of the podium thanks to the third fastest time in the second run. Fanara recently celebrated a second place in Alta Badia. Italy's Andrea Ballerin was fastest in the second run. In the Slalom on Thursday, 25-year-old Swiss racer Daniel Yule likewise earned a fifth place for the Fischer Race Family.
