Do what you want but do it the best you can: Tarjei Boe

Norwegian biathlete Tarje Bø made his Olympic debut at the 2010 Games in Vancouver, where he won his first gold medal in the relay. Since then, he has been busy collecting World Cup points as well as Olympic and World Championship medals all over the world. Together with his younger brother Johannes Thingnes Bø, they have become the first pair of siblings in history to make it onto the podium together at a competition.

When did you start cross country skiing?

I guess I started when I was 3 years old. Our family took us out cross-country skiing right from the start, and since then it's been a big part of my life.

What was your dream job when you were a child?

To become a professional soccer player. And that's still my dream.

What was your biggest breakthrough in your ski career?

The big step I made from the 2010- to 2011-season. From being a youngster to suddenly winning the overall World Cup was a really big achievement.

How does it feel to have your brother as one of your biggest competitors?

It's always been a pleasure. We have a strong bond, and our best days are when we're at the podium together. He's the hardest man to beat, but when I do it, I know I did a strong race.

Where is your favorite place to ski and where to race?

My favorite place for cross-country skiing is at Skeikampen in Norway, where I have my cabin. And my favorite place to race is of course at the homeground at Holmenkollen.

What are your favorite hobbies?

Hanging out with my friends.

Where have you not been yet, where you would like to go?

To Australia and South America. I will have a long vacation in one of those places when I retire.

What are the top 3 things we should know about you?

I'm happy most of the time.

You can trust me.

I have to have a tidy home to relax.

What is your favorite quote or personal motto?

Do what you want but do it the best you can.

What advice would you give others at the beginning of their competitive career?

Listen to and respect the signals your body gives you on your training, and always let that override what your coach says.

What does #livetoski mean to you?

Go skiing because you love it, and not because you have to.
