After Italy was in the lead with Vittozzi and Gontier (both ITA), Joanne Reid (USA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), the American's third skier, took the lead after never been more than ten seconds behind. "We are very happy, we have super fast skis today. Susan [Dunklee (USA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots)] only had one spare, I was free from mistakes and Joanne now prone without mistakes. Hopefully we stay in the lead", grinned athlete speaker Clare Egan (USA) during the race. Anna Magnussen (SWE) took the lead after the sixth shooting while the others took reloads. However, Hannah Dreißigacker (USA) was too slow to finish in the first positions, despite regaining lost time in prone shooting, but then in her standing stage she took two penalties. As leader Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) came to the last shooting, and there she had to fight against one penalty. Marte Olsbu Røiseland took the opportunity to take the lead and secured with her team the next gold medal. Silver went to the Swedes Linn Persson (SWE, Fischer skis and bindings), Mona Brorsson (SWE), Anna Magnusson and Hanna Öberg. Ukrainians Anastasiya Merkushyna (UKR), Vita Semerenko, Yulia Dzhima and Valj Semerenko (all UKR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) cheered on bronze and Semerenko did not realize how close the competitioner was. The first skiers in the men's relay remained mostly together until the first exchange. After half of the race, however, France and Norway escaped by 18 seconds with Quentin Fillon Maillet (FRA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Vetle Christiansen, followed by Sweden and Austria. Simon Desthieux (FRA) scored one penalty in the sixth shooting and Tarjei Bø had a big lead which his brother Johannes just had to take home. However, the Norwegian risked unnecessarily in the standing stage a very fast shooting and had to reload three times. After he hit all the targets, he breathed deeply relieved and cheered at the finish with his teammates. Behind Norway, France and Germany were fighting for silver: Martin Fourcade (FRA) made Benedikt Doll (GER) do the work to put pressure on the German with a quick first shot at standing. But the Frenchman showed much greater weaknesses at the shooting range and was deeply disappointed after taking two penalty loops. Silver for the German team with Erik Lesser (GER), Roman Rees (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), Arnd Peiffer and Benedikt Doll (GER) was no longer in danger. Bronze went to the Russian team with Matvey Eliseev (RUS), Nikita Porshnev, Dmitry Malyshko and Alexander Loginov (all RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). The Czechs Michal Slesingr (CZE), Ondrej Moravec (CZE, Fischer skis and bindings), Tomas Krupcik and Michal Krcmar (both CZE) finished fourth ahead of Slovenia with Miha Dovzan (SLO, Fischer skis and bindings), Jakov Fak (SLO , Fischer skis, bindings and boots), Klemen Bauer and Rok Trsan (both SLO, Fischer skis and bindings).
