Kriechmayr celebrates "most beautiful victory"

Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) celebrated his "most beautiful victory" in Hinterstoder on Saturday. In front of a home crowd, the Fischer rider beat Mauro Caviezel (SUI) and his compatriot Matthias Mayer (AUT) at the Super G - and that with the risky starting number one.

"Number one was definitely the best decision. Not everyone believed it, some people have already looked at me crooked," said Kriechmayr, who conjured up a ride without major mistakes on the spring-like Hannes Trinkl track.

But the Upper Austrian managed the mental tightrope act. "I was seldom as nervous as today, normally I sleep like a baby. The expectations of the fans and myself were high. It's special that I stood up to it."

Apart from Kriechmayr, who finished twelfth in the combination on Sunday, Max Franz is also getting back on track. The athlete from the Fischer Race Family picked up a portion of self-confidence with eleventh place.
