Denise Herrmann wins last sprint and small crystal globe

Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer ***) won the last sprint of the season - and possibly also the last race of the season. It has not yet been finally decided whether the season will end prematurely. At least the mixed relay on Sunday will be canceled. With her sprint victory ahead of Franziska Preuß (GER, Fischer ***) she also won the Sprint World Cup.

Both Denise Herrmann and Franziska Preuß were among the first athletes to start the race and had to defy the heavy snowfall that started on time at the start of the race. Despite her first-class race with a shooting error, she could not fully enjoy the race: "The weather was not fun. In the first lap there was a strong crosswind that it was not pleasant." Denise Herrmann, who took her third win of the season also with a penalty 20 seconds ahead of her teammate, said: "The snow was not planned, so I was surprised that it snowed so hard. But we expected the gusty wind. I thought my low start number was not good, but then it went well despite the penalty loop, maybe I needed the calm alone at the shooting range." Before the race, the former cross-country skier did not want to do the math and only knew that she could no longer lose fourth place in the overall World Cup. So she was completely surprised about the Sprint World Cup title: "I didn't expect it at all, I didn't want to drive myself crazy. Then the stadium announcer at the start said I was currently second in the Sprint World Cup and I just thought: Why did he have to say that now?" Tiril Eckhoff (NOR, Fischer ***) finished third on the podium and could still intercept the sprint 19th Doro Wierer (ITA) in the overall World Cup if the pursuit races are to start tomorrow as planned. Monika Hojnisz-Starega (POL, Fischer **) was a good sixth ahead of Larisa Kuklina (RUS, Fischer ***). Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (NOR, Fischer ***) finished ninth.
