Daniela Iraschko-Stolz wins in wintry Zao

On the second weekend of the little Japan tour of female ski jumpers, the World Cup stops in Zao (JPN). In difficult conditions, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (AUT, Fischer) took the victory. Third place went to Katharina Althaus (GER, Fischer).

Strong winds and poor visibility due to snowfall and fog caused the cancellation of the qualification yesterday and the conditions did not look much better today. Most of the time, the mostly gusty headwind caused many breaks so that the competition lasted more than two hours. The conditions were very changeable, so that the wind also partially changed from jump to jump between strong upwind and strong tailwind such as in the final with Maren Lundby (NOR, Fischer) and Nika Kriznar (SLO): Despite 12.5 meters difference in distance received both almost the same score. Despite the difficult conditions, Daniela Iraschko-Stolz showed two very good jumps on 93.5 and 92.5 meters and her experience as clearly oldest jumper benefited her. Although she could not keep up with the best jumps in the final, she secured her second win of the season. Third place went to Katharina Althaus with only two points behind the winner. Despite her 99.5m in strong headwind in the final, Maren Lundby missed the podium in fourth due to a weaker first jump and bad landing in the final. Her compatriot Anna Odine Strøm (NOR, Fischer) finished seventh.
