Norwegian women succeed in biathlon relay in Östersund

In an exciting relay race at the Biathlon World Cup in Östersund (SWE) the Norwegians Karoline Offigstad Knotten (NOR, Fischer ***), Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (NOR, Fischer ***), Tiril Eckhoff (NOR, Fischer ***) and Marte Olsbu Røiseland (NOR) celebrated victory followed by Elisa, Selina and Aita Gaspasrin (all SUI) as well as Lena Häcki (SUI, Fischer ***) and the Swedes Linn Persson (SWE, Fischer **), Elvira Öberg ( SWE), Mona Brorsson (SWE) and Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer ***).

In a close competition, first the Italians led the race, later the Swedes were in the role of the leading team thanks to very good shooting performance, until finally Marte Olsbu Røiseland took the lead and kept it until the end. Before, it was very exciting, always several teams were within 30 seconds behind first place. Already the third Norwegian Tiril Eckhoff could have predecided the race, as she led the race after her prone shooting and extra reduced the speed to hit all the targets safely. The Norwegian, who had many illness and injury worries in the summer, failed to do that and had to make up a 20 seconds gap before the last exchange. Marte Olsbu could then afford two spare rounds and still went first on the final lap, where she was no longer to catch. Behind her was still a fight for the places, first between Hanna Öberg and Lena Häcki, later also Franziska Preuß (GER, Fischer ***) joined the duo. But she could no longer follow an attack by the Swiss, who secured the first-class second place ahead of the Swedes. Fourth went to the German quartet with Karolin Horchler (GER, Fischer ***), Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer ***), Vanessa Hinz (GER) and Franziska Preuss.
