Due to his huge lead after the first two competitions of the Seefeld Triple, Jarl Magnus Riiber could also afford a jump with which he was visibly dissatisfied - but with this jump he extended his lead to 1:22 minutes. Behind him, the five-man chase group remained unchanged after the jump in tailwind conditions with the exception of the four-time triple winner Eric Frenzel (GER, Fischer ***), who lost 45 seconds with a too short jump. Together with Ilkka Herola (FIN, Fischer ***) he led the second group. His team-mate Vinzenz Geiger was the only skier in the first group who had ambitions to catch up with Riiber, so he was given the pace work first. But it soon became clear that this was too much to ask for him today - his coach Hermann Weinbuch had announced immediately before the start that the cold Vinz Geiger was not feeling well.
Thus Jørgen Graabak surprisingly took over the pace in the first lap, followed by his compatriot Jens Lurås Oftebro (NOR, Fischer ***), Geiger and Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer ***). Overall, the race was characterized by tactics, both at Riiber and in the two groups behind him the pace was about the same. Only in the fifth lap the 45-second gap between the first and second group with Ilkka Herola as the strongest skier shrink significantly. Shortly thereafter, Jørgen Graabak also increased the pace so that Watabe could not keep up with the pace. A few kilometers later Oftebro also lost the connection and only the stricken Geiger surprisingly kept up with Jørgen Graabak - but obviously at the end of his strength. Nevertheless, the German attacked in the last small climb to the stadium, but couldn't get past the Norwegian and tried again unsuccessfully on the home straight. Second place went to the Norwegian, third place to the exhausted German. Jarl Magnus Riiber had taken it a bit easier the last two laps and secured the first Norwegian victory in the Seefeld Triple with a 50 second lead and the Norwegian flag in his hand. Jens Lurås Oftebro saved fourth place ahead of the rushing Eric Frenzel and Ilkka Herola. Akito Watabe finished eighth ahead of Espen Bjørnstad (NOR, Fischer ***).
