Sundling and Chanavat triumph in the sprint

The freestyle sprint in Planica took place in pouring rain, hail and thunderstorms and Jonna Sundling (SWE, Fischer **) and Lucas Chanavat (FRA, Fischer ***) were celebrated as winners. Stina Nilsson (SWE, Fischer **) finished second ahead of Julia Kern (USA, Fischer **). Third place also went to Erik Valnes (NOR, Fischer ***).

The final of the women on the technically demanding track was dominated by the three Swedes after Anamarija Lampic (SLO, Fischer ***) set the pace at the beginning. Sophie Caldwell (USA) attacked on the first climb, but couldn't get past the Swedish armada. Halfway through the race, Davos winner Linn Svahn (SWE, Fischer **) led Jonna Sundling, Sophie Caldwell, Stina Nilsson, Anamarija Lampic and Julia Kern until the Slovenian had to slow down at a narrow point and Julia Kern started to catch up , At the start of the home stretch, the American was fifth when Linn Svahn fell after contacting Sophie Caldwell, who was skiing behind her. Jonna Sundling was the first to cross the finish line and was happy about her second World Cup victory: "The conditions were good in the finals. At the beginning it was difficult to race because the track was very hard. But it went very well. The weather was crazy. It flashed, thundered, hailed and rained so much - everything! " Stina Nilsson made it onto the podium for the first time this season after reaching the finish in the quarter-finals with a broken ski - but despite her podium the Swede still doesn't seem to be in top form. In the battle for third place, Julia Kern succeeded against Sophie Caldwell with the better finish sprint and the 22-year-old got the first podium of her life. Anamarija Lampic finished fifth ahead of the extremely ambitious Linn Svahn, who hit the snow with her head when she crashed and crossed the line deeply disappointed and angry because of the missed chance. Maiken Caspersen Falla (NOR, Fischer ***) did not seem to be coping well with these conditions, after a fall in the semi-finals she missed the finals.

The men's finale was dominated like the heats by Lucas Chanavat, who, like Davos, showed himself in husky shape. In the absence of Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (NOR, Fischer ***) this time Federico Pellegrino (ITA) was his biggest competitor, who showed better shape today and made it to the finals for the first time this winter. There, however, Chanavat again dominated the race - first with his compatriot Richard Jouve (FRA), until Pellegrino moved to second position after an attack in the first climb. The Frenchman won the sprint from the lead and finally celebrated his first World Cup victory. "It's a great feeling. I was in great shape. Finally I managed to win. I didn't think about the weather, I did everything I could to win", he said professionally , Erik Valnes crossed the finish line in third in front of his compatriot Sindre Bjørnestad Skar (NOR, Fischer ***).
