Karl Geiger celebrates home victory in Willingen

Karl Geiger (GER, Fischer) won his second World Cup victory in Willingen (GER). Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer) finished second.

With a broad beam over the entire face, Karl Geiger was happy about his second World Cup victory, this time even in front of his home crowd. After the first good jump on 142 meters, he was third, 3.2 points behind Kamil Stoch. In the final, he used a touch of headwind to a long jump to 150.5 meters and was happy about his next podium place - after all, the high flyers Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) and Kamil Stoch were still on top. The Japanese was not able to overtake the German and Kamil Stoch jumped only 144.5 meters. Perhaps both were irritated that after the long jump by Geiger only 1.5 meters below hill record the inrun length was not shortened. Immediately before the World Championships they maybe don't want to take unnecessary risks, this could be the reason that both did not show their best jumps. Immediately after the landing, Kamil Stoch was visibly disappointed - while Karl Geiger cheered: "That was one of the best jumps I've ever done! That went in so far down! I had a good rhythm, I stayed relaxed and then it worked out." Richard Freitag (GER, Fischer) finished sixth after two very good jumps. Kilian Peier (SUI, Fischer) cheered on 145.5 meters in the final, which brought him from place 13 to eighth.
