I would love to go everywhere I haven’t been yet: Kamil Stoch

Kamil Stoch is one of the most experienced athletes in the ski jumping circus, who already made his World Cup debut in 2004 and celebrated numerous titles as World Champion and Olympic Champion. The two-time overall World Cup winner in 13l14 and 17l18 is still flying ahead of the young eagles with his distinct feeling for flight.

When did you start ski jumping?

I started skiing when I was 5 years old. It was right behind my parent’s house. But skiing only started to make me bored, so I started to build small bumps and try to jump from them. Soon I realized that I want to jump higher and longer because it was really fun. I still have this feeling until now.

What was your dream job when you were a child?

When I was a child, I had the common dream about my future job as most of the boys have. I dreamed to be a policeman or firefighter. I also dreamed to be Superman, because he could fly. Half of my wish came true, because more or less I can fly on the ski jumping hill ;-)

What was your biggest breakthrough in your ski career?

My wedding was a big breakthrough in my private live, but also it helped me to see the sport more distantly I suppose.

My first victory in World Cup in my career was in Zakopane. The place where I put my first steps on the real ski jumping hill, where I grew up, went to school, and start to dream about being a professional athlete. I could not dream about a better place to win a first World Cup. I was 23 that time. I’ve been waiting a bit for my first success, but it was worth it.

What is your favorite hobby?

I like reading books, listening different kinds of music, depends on my mood.  And I love traveling. Explore new places, get to know new culture, taste different kind of food, and meeting interesting people.

Where have you not been that you want to go to?

I would love to go everywhere I haven’t been yet :-D

What are the top 3 things we should know about you?

I like to watch cycling.

I’m a fan of Liverpool FC.

I have a special gift to smashing fragile objects. That is why I usually hold my crystal trophies only on the podium and after that I can watch them in my gallery behind the safeguard ;-)

If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Pasta!

Favorite quote or personal motto?

„When we put God first, all other things fall into their proper place or drop out of our lives.”

What advice would you give you athletes at the beginning of their competitive career?

Just be yourself. Work hard, be patient and try to enjoy every second in the air.

What does #livetoski mean to you?

In the place where I was born and grew up, there is snow for most of the year. It is kind of natural that skis are part of my life, and I can’t imagine how it could be without them.
