Herrmann and Bø take silver in the pursuit

Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer ***) and Johannes Thingnes Bø (NOR, Fischer ***) became vice World Champions in pursuit at the Biathlon World Championships in Antholz (ITA). Alexander Loginov (RUS, Fischer ***) won bronze.

Denise Herrmann was only beaten in the pursuit by local hero Dorothea Wierer (ITA), who won her first title in front of a home crowd. Wierer and Marte Olsbu Røiseland (NOR) fought an exciting duel during the entire race, in which Denise Herrmann only got involved at the very end because of a total of three penalties, when the Norwegian also had to ski two penalty loops after her final shooting. The final lap both started together and raced tactically so that the pursuers came closer and closer until the German finally attacked 300 meters from the finish line and secured silver. "With fifth place in the sprint there was an incentive to fight for the medals. But it was always a mistake too much so far. I was a little nervous because my starting position was about as good as last year. It was a shame that I missed the last shot. I saw that the Doro was gone, but I was out with Olsbu and I knew I could make it", she said. Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer ***) could no longer intercept the Norwegian and thus missed the medals. Ivona Fialkova (SVK, Fischer ***) was the sixth and achieved her best career result. Franziska Preuß (GER, Fischer ***) finished seventh ahead of Lisa Theresa Hauser (AUT, Fischer ***) and Baiba Bendika (LAT, Fischer ***).

With fast and risky shooting Alexander Loginov tried to repeat his success from the sprint. That went well until the last shooting, when he had to go into the penalty loop. He could no longer catch up with Johannes Thingnes Bø and Emilien Jacquelin (FRA), who went into the last lap together. There the Frenchman played with the experienced Norwegian and constantly turned his head back not to miss an attack. But this attack did not come, Jacquelin forced Bø onto the outside track in front of the tunnel outside the stadium, so that the Norwegian could not overtake him in the stadium either. Alexander Loginov finished third and won his second medal. Tarjei Bø (NOR, Fischer ***) finished sixth ahead of Quentin Fillon Maillet (FRA, Fischer ***), who had six penalties. Felix Leitner (AUT, Fischer ***) was ninth again.
