Matveeva and Skar claim sprint wins in Dobbiaco
Free technique sprint in Düsseldorf 2007: This was Natalia Matveeva's last and until today also the only World Cup victory, before she triumphated today in Dobbiaco. The Russian took the lead after the start and everyone awaited the unpreventable attack of top-favoured Maiken Caspersen Falla. But Matveeva paid attention and was directly behind the Norwegian in the uphills. She was able to counterattack an attack of Falla in the final uphill and both opened a small gap. The Russian tried to take the win out of the slip stream and went wide in the final corner to keep a high pace. This tactic was successful and she celebrated her second carreer's success. The Norwegian was beaten very shortly. "I am very happy. I was waiting very long for this victory, so now I am extremely satisfied. I am happy for the whole team and I want to thank my coach Markus Cramer", the winner was all-smiled. Today she ended a long scandinavian winning history with successes in the last 15 free sprints for Norwegians or Swedes. Vesna Fabjan (SLO, Fischer) came in sixth.
