Eric Frenzel celebrates victory followed by Watabe in Trondheim

Eric Frenzel (GER, Fischer skis and boots) secured his third win of the season in Trondheim (NOR). Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer skis and boots) finished second ahead of Fabian Rießle (GER, Fischer skis and boots).

"I'm in very good jumping shape but the track is not my favorite track, it's not that steep. But I have to go my own race," said Akito Watabe, the best jumper of the day. He started in his own pace, but the pursuers came closer and closer. Eric Frenzel caught up with him after half of the race and then recovered in the slipstream of his Japanese friend. At the same time the pace work was stopped in the chasing group - the gap was very big with almost 40 seconds. But soon Fabian Rießle again increased the pace, who also skied in the lead mostly in the next few kilometers. More than a kilometer before the finish, he attacked and escaped out of the group with Johannes Rydzek (GER, Fischer skis and boots) and Jørgen Graabak (NOR, Fischer). In the meantime, Eric Frenzel took the lead and clinched his third win of the season - including Olympic Gold. "First I had to make up for the 27 seconds, I tried to close the gap as fast as possible and then recover, but it took me a long time to recover. But then the energies for the final sprint were back again," Frenzel said. Akito Watabe was the second and collected important points for the overall World Cup and is now about 150 points ahead of Jan Schmid (NOR). Johannes Rydzek led the pursuing trio into the stadium, but was just beaten by his compatriot in the battle for the podium, who had the better finish. Jørgen Graabak finished fifth. Ninth place went to Mario Seidl (AUT, Fischer skis and boots) ahead of Go Yamamoto (JPN, Fischer skis and boots).
