Yurlova-Percht wins silver in the mass start

At the Italian biathlon day in Östersund (SWE) with wins by Dorothea Wierer and Dominik Windisch (both ITA) Ekaterina Yurlova-Percht (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) celebrated the vice World Champion title in the mass start. Bronze went to Denise Herrmann (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Julian Eberhard (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

When Doro Wierer secured victory it became very tight in the final lap, when Ekaterina Yurlova-Percht and Denise Herrmann caught up second by second. For the last five seconds, however, it was not enough for the Russian, who had to go into the penalty loop twice in difficult wind conditions, same as Wierer. Denise Herrmann missed even four targets, including the very last, which prevented another gold medal for the former cross-country skier. However, thanks to her skiing skills she was able to secure the bronze medal. Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) managed a jump from eleven to four with a flawless final shooting - her second fourth place at these World Championships at home. Tiril Eckhoff (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished fifth ahead of Laura Dahlmeier (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Rank ten went to Joanne Reid (USA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

In the men's mass start, overall World Cup winner Johannes Thingnes Bø (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) initially stayed behind and remained in the group in unpleasant conditions with strong wind and snowfall. When he had to face a total of seven times in the penalty loop, he lost the chance on another medal completely. Evgeniy Garanichev (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) took the lead with a 20 second advantage after the third shooting, but like the Norwegian, who closed the gap again until the last shooting, he could not hit the targets and both dropped back. Dominik Windisch was no longer to catch, Antonin Guigonnat (FRA) and Julian Eberhard fought for silver and bronze on the final lap and the Austrian had to accept defeat against the Frenchman. Shortly after, Alexander Loginov (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) crossed the line in fourth, ahead of Quentin Fillon Maillet (FRA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Tarjei Bø (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished ninth.
