Therese Johaug wins first World Cup after her comeback

Therese Johaug (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) celebrated a great start at the World Cup opening in Ruka (FIN) and won the ten kilometers in the classic style ahead of the Swedes Charlotte Kalla (SWE, Fischer) and Ebba Andersson (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Emil Iversen (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished in second place right behind Winning Alexander Bolshunov (RUS).

Therese Johaug proved after two winters of absence as in the FIS races in Sjusjøen a very good shape. The Norwegian started carefully into her race on the first lap, before she attacked from lap two until the end and gained second by second on her opponents. "I've dreamed of this victory for two years. I really wanted to win the first World Cup and today it's become reality. I've trained hard and I've been waiting for this day, a dream has come true for me. ActuallyI am in good shape and I hope that I am even better in Seefeld. There are 10km also in classic style and that is my goal. But now I'm looking forward to be on top of the podium", Therese Johaug smiled. At the finish she was 22 seconds ahead of her biggest rival Charlotte Kalla, who had waxed very smooth and slid already on the first kilometer in the climb and had to straddle. Third place went to her Swedish team-mate Ebba Andersson, who was 32 seconds behind. Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) took fourth place ahead of sprint winner Yulia Belorukova (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), who also showed a strong improvement on the longer distance. Natalia Nepryaeva (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Sadie Bjornsen (USA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Ragnhild Haga (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) took tenth place ahead of Stina Nilsson (SWE, Fischer) and Teresa Stadlober (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

Already early in the season Alexander Bolshunov proves a first class shape. After yesterday's home straight surprise for Johannes Høsflot Klæbo (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), he set the best times today with the highest starting number among the favorites from lap two and did not give up the lead until the end. Second place went to Emil Iversen, who finished second just under 20 seconds back- he was also runner-up in Ruka two years ago. Martin Johnsrud Sundby (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) missed the podium by ten seconds. Fifth went to Andrej Larkov (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) followed by the now 36-year-old Maxim Vylegzhanin (RUS, Fischer). The places eight to ten went to Norway to Martin Løwstrøm Nyenget, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo and Didrik Tønseth (all NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).
