Slovenia surprisingly wins team competition in ski flying

Anze Semenic (SLO), Peter Prevc (SLO, Fischer), Domen Prevc and Timi Zajc (both SLO) surprisingly returned with a victory in ski flying, after a mostly poor performance this winter. In the team competition in Vikersund (NOR), Constantin Schmid (GER), Richard Freitag, Karl Geiger and Markus Eisenbichler (all GER, Fischer) took second place ahead of Michael Hayböck, Philipp Aschenwald, Daniel Huber and Stefan Kraft (all AUT, Fischer).

Already after the first round the Slovenian team was 13 points ahead of Germany thanks to Domen Prevc. With Richard Freitag, the German team in the final came back to just three points gap, until Domen Prevc brought his team again a clear lead. Markus Eisenbichler was able to shorten the gap a bit, but Slovenia won quite clearly with 28 points ahead. After six jumps the Poles Piotr Zyla, Jakub Wolny, Dawid Kubacki (all POL) and Kamil Stoch (POL, Fischer) seemed to be safely in third place, but they made their calculations without the Austrians. An incredible strong Stefan Kraft, who already jumped 233 meters in the first round, made the decisive difference with his 239.5 meters in the final. As in the last few days, Kamil Stoch again showed weaknesses because he did not put the pressure on the take-off and landed at 202 and 200 meters. With these 50 points difference between Kraft and Stoch only in the final, the Austrians made it to the podium.
