Memorable World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel

The Alpine World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel started with a bang for the #fischerracefamily and ended with an explosion. In the end, with 4 medals, a satisfactory result is on the books, on which one can build.

First of all, it should be noted that the World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel have been a great event. Everyone involved, including the athletes, praised the organization and the condition of the slopes.

Also for the #fischerracefamily the event took a successful course. Two bronze medals in the first two races for Ricarda and Raphael Haaser meant a good start to the racing days. Jasmine Flury showed up with the highlight for Fischer, her gold medal at Women's Downhill. And with the last race of the event, AJ Ginnis made our hearts skip a beat with his 2nd rank in Men's Slalom.

First race, first medal for the #fischerracefamily

The World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel started with the Women's Alpine Combination on Monday, 6th February 2023 in Meribel.
And nobody would have expected Ricarda Haaser to complete the podium in third place after Federica Brignone and Wendy Holdener. But Ricarda proofed everyone wrong, starting with a solid Super G (8th rank) and ending a great Slalom (3rd rank)! In the final standings this meant an outstanding third place, just ahead of Fischer athlete Ramona Siebenhofer in 4th.

Second Bronze for the Haasers

The sister has shown the way, one day later Raphael Haaser also sensationally won the bronze medal in the Alpine combined. Raphael confirmed his rising form and was already able to put himself in position with an excellent Super G (Rank 3). In the slalom, he then left no stone unturned, showed a great technique and was able to successfully defend the bronze rank at the end.

Gold for Jasmine Flury

Already with Bib No. 2 Jasmine started into the supreme discipline of the alpine competitions in Meribel. She showed an incredible performance, drove on attack without making a mistake! After her incredible run, there was a long wait until all the favorites and other runners had reached the finish line. And then she had certainty: she is world champion!

Historical conclusion

Greek slalom specialist AJ Ginnis wins the silver medal in the final race of the World Championships in Courchevel/Méribel. With a sensational first run and a cool and settled second, AJ wrote history becoming the first Greek ever to win a medal in the World Championships of a winter sport. What an end to the great days in the French Alps.

That's it from France. But there is hardly any time to catch your breath. The World Cup continues next week with the men's races in the USA and the women's races in Scandinavia. We will keep you up to date.
