Svahn and Chanavat celebrate their second World Cup wins in Dresden

Both Linn Svahn (SWE, Fischer **) and Lucas Chanavat (FRA, Fischer ***) were able to celebrate their second World Cup victory in the freestyle sprint on the banks of river Elbe in Dresden (GER). Anamarija Lampic (SLO, Fischer ***) finished second, as well as Sindre Bjørnestad Skar (NOR, Fischer ***) ahead of Johan Häggström (SWE, Fischer ***).

Again, the city sprint in Dresden was not a good place for Norwegian girls who missed the final. So it became more of a Swedish domain again, although Jonna Sundling (SWE, Fischer **) became ill and Stina Nilsson (SWE, Fischer **) even may have to end the entire season because of her broken rib. After the start and the climb onto the Elbe dike, the three Swedes and double winner Anamarija Lampic led the field. Shortly thereafter, Maja Dahlqvist (SWE) led the field with Linn Svahn into the second lap after the hairpin. There the tactics of the 20-year-old worked perfectly and Linn Svahn won the sprint from the lead. Anamarija Lampic was able to outsprint Dahlqvist on the home stretch and secure second place in Dresden after two victories. For Linn Svahn it was her second victory in the fourth World Cup race: "I like it when it's fast with a fast final sprint. It's great to have Maja on the podium. My plan was to stay with Maja and going down the hill as first. It's fun racing in front of so many people and I'm looking forward to the team sprint tomorrow."

Without Federico Pellegrino (ITA), who crashed in the quarter final, Davos winner Lucas Chanavat and Sindre Bjørnestad Skar went into the final as favorites, in which both fulfilled their role as favorites. The Frenchman skied the entire race from the lead and crossed the line with a clear lead. ""I felt good today, especially in the final stretch. I saw the crazy falls because Richard Jouve is usually fighting there (in the 180° turn) during the final and he was unlucky today again but he will be back stronger soon. I was hoping for a World Cup victory this year but I was not expecting it to happen so fast", he said. Sindre Bjørnestad Skar was happy with second place ahead of Johan Häggström, who celebrated the first podium of his life. Pål Trøan Aune (NOR, Fischer ***) came in fourth.
