Jarl Riiber triumphs in Otepää

Jarl Magnus Riiber (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) continues to be in a class of his own, winning the first Otepää (EST) competition in front of Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Martin Fritz (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

On Saturday, due to gusty winds of 4-7 m/s and starting snowfall, no ski jump could take place, so that the provisional jump was used. But even on Friday, the conditions were very difficult, even though the best were able to rank in front, with the exception of Johannes Rydzek (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and especially Fabian Rießle (GER), who had bad luck with the wind. However, some athletes like Eric Frenzel (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) or Jørgen Graabak (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) are taking a training break. The Austrians had to jump in the PCR with borrowed skis because their skibags were stranded in Munich.

In the cross country race, top favorite Jarl Magnus Riiber started immediately behind the best jumper Franz-Josef Rehrl (AUT) and directly after the start a group of five was together. On the first lap, the Norwegian set the pace, but when he wasn't able to open a gap, the tactics started on the next two laps. The chasing group of seven at the beginning, in which Vinzenz Geiger (GER, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) had to do all the work and from which more and more athletes fell behind, came up to 20 seconds. Then Martin Fritz attacked 1.5 kilometers from the finish and joined the lead group - the German and his compatriot Manuel Faißt (GER) were not able to keep up with the pace. Shortly thereafter, Jarl Magnus Riiber set an attack in the lead group that nobody could really follow. He gained a few meters on Akito Watabe, who also had a gap to the Austrian trio. With these gaps, they also crossed the finish line and Riiber celebrated his fifth win of the season. Martin Fritz won the third place sprint ahead of Mario Seidl (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), Vinzenz Geiger finished sixth. Seventh place went to Espen Bjørnstad (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), who could not keep up with the pace of the leading group. Johannes Rydzek still came in tenth place.
