Iraschko-Stolz wins RAW AIR opener

For the first time, the ski jumping ladies also compete in a RAW AIR Tour at the end of the season. Daniela Iraschko-Stolz (AUT, Fischer) took victory and Katharina Althaus (GER, Fischer) finished third place at the opening at the Holmenkollen in Oslo (NOR).

After a trial round at 9 a.m. with a perfect headwind, which increased significantly toward the end, the wind changed again until the competition. It decreased significantly, but turned over again and again, which was the reason for problems in the last few days in nordic combined and ski jumping. A strong tailwind at the start, turning wind from the take-off and a strong headwind at the bottom, but only a few were able to benefit from the headwind. Although Daniela Iraschko-Stolz had problems with the landing in the first round after 120 meters, she nevertheless led the ranking. In the final, she was able to use a good headwind for a jump on 121 meters and took the victory with a clear lead, as the other athletes had problems: "I'm surprised that it worked so well for me here. Especially the second jump was really cool. The risk I took definitely paid off. I'm extremely happy." Katharina Althaus took her chance after only being ninth after a rare technical mistake at the take-off. With her 119.5 meters she moved up in the final to third place: "It was not easy to jump here today because the wind was changing a lot. But I'm very satisfied with my performance, my second jump was really good." Top favorite Maren Lundby (NOR, Fischer) did not get past fifth place this time. In the first round, she can not keep up with the best, after for her and Katharina Althaus the inrun length was shortened. In the final she had to survive big turbulences during her jump and landed already at 109 meters. Chiara Hölzl (AUT, Fischer) dropped back from four to six. Anna Odine Strøm (NOR, Fischer) finished ninth.
