Jørgen Graabak celebrates fourth World Cup victory

Jørgen Graabak (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) managed to narrowly defeat Akito Watabe (JPN, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) at the Nordic Combined World Cup in Lahti (FIN), Mario Seidl (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) came in third.

For a long time everything looked like a victory for Mario Seidl, who returned to the World Cup in Lahti after two weeks of illness. At noon the Austrian showed such a long jump on 132 meters, with which he took eight meters from the two-strongest jumper. His 43-second lead was gone after just six kilometers due to his feverish infection, when Watabe first caught up with him and a little later Graabak. The Austrian could not keep up with this pace and had to leave the two competitors alone. The final sprint had to be decided on the winner and both athletes tried everything to secure the victory. Side by side, both approached the finish line and shortly after it was displayed for both the same time - the photo finish decided wafer-thin for the Norwegian, who celebrated his fourth World Cup victory. Third place went to Mario Seidl. Out of the chasing group, Espen Bjørnstad (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) took fourth place, Ilkka Herola (FIN, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished sixth ahead of Bernhard Gruber (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), whose chances getting lost before the home World Championships in Seefeld.
