Justine Braisaz scores next French victory in individual competition

After the victory of Martin Fourcade (FRA) in the men's individual in Östersund (SWE) and the French quadruple victory, Justine Braisaz (FRA, Fischer ***) secured the next French victory today and secured her second World Cup victory ahead of Yuliia Dzhima (UKR, Fischer ***) and her compatriot Julia Simon (FRA).

Early on in the race it looked as if this competition for Justine Braisaz again would become a complete flop: After two penalties in the first shooting, she was initially far behind. But the Frenchwoman kept her nerves and cleared the next 15 targets - suddenly she was back in business and took the lead from her teammate Julia Simon, who had reached the finish immediately before her. "I decided to take lots pleasure today because was awful four days ago with six mistakes, and thought about stopping my career…I knew I had good legs today; I knew it on the first loop. I did not panic after the prone shooting. I said ‘Justine, keep focused; take pleasure like you did before.’ It was so nice to race with Julia; she kept my mind focused. " Almost 20 minutes later, the Frenchwoman had to tremble once more for her victory, when Yuliia Dzhima provisionally took the lead after perfect 20 shots. But on the last lap, the Ukrainian lost the lead, as expected, but was obviously happy with second place.

Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold (NOR, Fischer ***) missed the very last target and missed her first World Cup victory and podium 25 seconds behind. Larisa Kuklina (RUS, Fischer ***) seems to be an expert on the track and the wind in Östersund - in the sprint she was 18th, at the World Championships in February she scored her best result ever with place 16. Today, she had two penalties and was 38 seconds behind in finishing first-class fifth-placed. Sixth went to Lena Häcki (SUI, Fischer ***), who also gave the victory out of her hands with three penalties in the last shooting: "Unfortunately, I put a lot of pressure on myself, it was too much in my head in this race, but I am very happy with the result and the season is still long." Monika Hojnisz-Starega (POL, Fischer ***) was eighth, world champion and Olympic champion Hanna Öberg (SWE, Fischer ***) was tenth.
