Therese Johaug continues her winning series in Davos

Therese Johaug (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) won the ten-kilometer freestyle at the cross-country World Cup in Davos. However, this time the gaps on Ingvild Flugstad Østberg (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and Krista Pärmäkoski (FIN) were not as big as in previous competitions. Martin Johnsrud Sundby (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished third over 15 kilometers.

Therese Johaug flew over the track early in the race, taking 16 seconds after 2.2 kilometers from Ebba Andersson (SWE, Fischer skis, bindings and boots), who started shortly before her, even though Østberg and Pärmäkoski were still in between. In the steepest part of the climb just before the turn and the downhill towards the stadium Johaug extended her lead over the trio. From the 7.2 kilometer mark, the quartet's gaps remained relatively constant: Therese Johaug continued her triumphal march without danger and is still unbeaten in distance races after her doping suspension. Second place went to Davos expert Ingvild Flugstad Østberg twelve seconds behind. "I have been here for a week now and always had good weather. But the track is very tough, so I'm happy to be back on top of the podium and now I'm looking forward to Christmas and I am pleased that Ingvild became second and not far behind", says Therese Johaug. In the absence of the sick Charlotte Kalla (SWE, Fischer skis and bindings), the Swedish women's team missed the podium for the first time this season with Ebba Andersson in fourth place, 38 seconds behind. Teresa Stadlober (AUT, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) once again gained a top10 result. With 1:09 minutes behind she finished a good seventh place. Anastasia Sedova (RUS, Fischer skis and bindings) was eighth followed by her compatriot Natalia Nepryaeva (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) and the surprisingly strong Elisa Brocard (ITA, Fischer skis, bindings and boots).

Martin Johnsrud Sundby was able to secure a podium finish in Davos, although he certainly hoped for more than third place. The Norwegian had tactically opted for an early start number to be able to compete with a strong skier from red group from the second round onwards - which he did well, skiing behind Denis Spitsov (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) for a long time and he was able to save energies. However, the Russian finished fourth just three seconds behind him ahead of Chris Andre Jespersen (NOR, Fischer skis, bindings and boots). Within a week, the Norwegian, who was nominated in Beitostølen only for the national group, became an athlete fighting for a World Cup podium. After his strong performances in Beitostølen, he now set a time with the start number 10 which posed problems for many favorites. Andrey Melnichenko (RUS, Fischer skis, bindings and boots) finished ninth.
