She certainly had the edge in the Parallel Slalom event in Moscow: Lena Dürr, the promising 21-year-old German racer. Lena finally unleashed her full potential just in time for the WSC: "The thought did cross my mind that the race was up for grabs. But I wasn't expecting victory!" Besides the big winner of the day in the women's event there was another successful result for Fischer in Moscow. Ivica Kostelić (CRO) won the race for third place.
It was no doubt the thrill of racer versus racer which gave Lena Dürr the decisive edge in the race: "It was great fun. I did everything I could to stay focused on myself. It's not often that I've been so happy about a race!" The final run was by no means a tight finish and Dürr left Veronika Velez-Zuzulová trailing 0.43 seconds behind her to clinch victory. "It is of course a completely different discipline and you can't compare it to Slalom or Giant Slalom. But it is still a confidence booster and motivation for the WSC," says Dürr, with her first World Cup victory coming at just the right time.
