He went into the night slalom brimming with confidence and emerged as the winner. Ivica Kostelić (CRO) celebrated what was a very special win at the night race in Flachau (AUT). The 20th in his World Cup career. He was full of confidence as he started out in the second run: "I wasn't overconfident of course, but I have never lost a race after leading in the first leg. Apart from once in Kitzbühel, that is," were his words after winning the race.

Left disappointment behind him

"I was really disappointed in Alta Badia. But life has its ups and downs as the saying goes. And that was simply a down. When I saw on the clock that I was 0.07 seconds in front I thought to myself, 'the hundredths are on your side today, Ivica'," says Kostelić. The Croatian superstar also changed his tactics: "In Alta Badia I desperately wanted to win. I was much more relaxed today. More is possible, but in these conditions you have to ski with a lot of feeling!" Something that Kostelić has already demonstrated a number of times. And he hardly had any problems on this piste, despite it no longer being in perfect condition. "With these skis and the overall package I'm capable of skiing well anywhere. It really does perform in all conditions," – words of praise that Fischer racing Director Siegi Voglreiter was especially pleased to hear.

Next on the agenda

The Kostelić clan now plans to spend some quiet days in their hometown of Zagreb and do some training for the race there. The next stop after Christmas will be Innerkrems in Austria and then Munich for the first World Cup race of the New Year on 1 January. And this is where Kostelić is planning to step up the pace again: "We just have to pray that we stay fit and healthy and then things will take care of themselves!"

Fischer also strong with boots

Some other Fischer athletes no doubt have similar plans. Patrick Thaler (ITA) is gradually going from strength to strength in Slalom. Following his fantastic seventh place in Alta Badia (ITA) he once again made it into the top ten. He shouted out in joy as he crossed the line to finish in sixth place. People are also talking about the fact that there are so many Fischer ski boots that are currently being worn by the world's best. Besides the day's big winner, Christian Deville (ITA) in third, fifth place for Manfred Pranger (AUT) and Jens Byggmark finishing in eighth (SWE) are likewise extremely encouraging results for Fischer.
