Rainer Schönfelder (AUT)

Racing: Rainer Schönfelder and Fischer extend cooperation for two more years

28-year-old Austrian also changing to Fischer Soma-Tec boots

Rainer Schönfelder and Fischer are to work together for two more years. The 28-year-old Austrian, who has been with Fischer since 2002, signed the contract this week. What's new about the cooperation: the double Olympic medallist from "Torino 2006" is also changing to the innovative Fischer Soma-Tec boots. This makes the Upper Austrian ski manufacturer Schönfelder's all-round equipment provider for the next two years, with skis, boots and bindings.

Rosenkranz: "Schönfelder will have a complete package that is tuned perfectly to his requirements."

Stefan Rosenkranz, General Manager of Fischer Alpine, on the new contract: "I'm very pleased that Rainer Schönfelder has chosen to work with us for the next two years. I'm even more pleased by the fact that he will also be skiing with our boots over the next two years. We will provide him with a complete package that is tuned perfectly to his requirements. We have already been very successful with our Soma-Tec boots throughout the last season with Niki Hosp and Alexandra Meissnitzer. I am sure that Rainer Schönfelder will be joined by even more World Cup skiers in the upcoming season who rely on the innovative quality of our boots." Siegi Voglreiter, Racing Director at Fischer, on the further cooperation with Schönfelder: "Rainer Schönfelder has become a key figure for Fischer, a real ambassador. I am convinced that we will celebrate many successes together over the coming years."

Schönfelder: "Not only top equipment, the team spirit at Fischer is also incredible"

"I've just had a very successful season in which I made a big step in development. And in this process it was quite clear that with Fischer I'm on top equipment, not only in the technical disciplines but also in the speed events. That's the technical side, the other side is the incredible team spirit at Fischer. This is just as important as top equipment when you want to be successful", says Rainer Schönfelder on his new contract. The Austrian continues: "Last year I more or less went my own way with the boots and now know better than ever before which parameters have to be just right when it comes to ski boots. Fischer fulfils these technical material requirements in all respects. And because in my opinion development will continue to focus on the communication between ski, binding and boot, I have decided to compete with the complete Fischer package. In the further development of the material it has become clear that above all speed counts – so it's a logistical advantage when all components come from the same racing team.

Further Fischer skiers sign new contracts: Nyberg, Jaerbyn, Nyman, Burtin and Baumann

Rainer Schönfelder is not the only one who has extended his contract with Fischer. There are additional athletes who will go into the World Championship winter with Fischer. Fredrik Nyberg (SWE), third in the Giant Slalom ranking last season, and fellow Swede Patrik Jaerbyn will be competing with Fischer at the World Championships on home ground. US shooting star Steven Nyman – the "stormin' Mormon" – and Frenchman Raphael Burtin, who had a number of top results in the 2005/06 season, will also be staying with Fischer. One of Austria's biggest hopes for the future, Romed Baumann, will likewise continue to rely on Fischer. At the Junior World Championships in Canada in March 2006 the 20-year-old took one gold and two silver medals and has a fixed place in the World Cup in the coming season.
