Summer lull? No such thing – it's all happening in the long-distance sector! Anders and Jørgen Aukland (NOR) have changed to Fischer skis and boots.
The brothers, who have dominated the international ski marathon scene in the classic technique for years, will now be relying on the boot model RCS Carbonlite Classic
and the diverse classic models in the Carbonlite
ski series from Fischer.
Jørgen and Anders Aukland have been known as winning racers in the ski marathon scene for years and are always contenders for the podium over long distances with the classic technique. Anders Aukland won the Vasaloppet in 2004 and Jørgen Aukland went on to clinch victory twice in the classic cross country race in 2008 und 2013. In 2008 the brotherly duo achieved two one-two victories with the top two places at the Marcialonga (Anders ahead of Jørgen) followed by the Vasaloppet (Jørgen ahead of Anders). Even though they are 38 and 41 and no longer rank among the rookies in the sport, the two ski marathon specialists still have everything going for them and have their sights set on a number of targets. But to achieve these goals, everything has to fall into place.
This is the reason why, starting immediately and after extensive tests, the successful brothers will be placing their trust in Fischer skis and boots. "We fight every day to be the best – both in terms of training and our equipment. The change of equipment will give us all the motivation we need for this daily fight," explains Anders Aukland, adding: "We were surprised ourselves about how big the differences are in terms of both skis and boots." Both brothers agree: "Above all it was the construction of the skis at Fischer which we found to be convincing from the start. The skis glide extremely well and feel much faster from the off – especially when double poling, which is particularly important over the long distances." The brothers have also been highly impressed by the excellent cooperation with the new equipment sponsor: "The excellent support from Fischer both at international and national levels means a lot to us. It is a very professional approach to work and we are proud to have Fischer as a new partner."
Fischer is also proud to welcome the two classic long-distance specialists on board. As Fischer athletes dominate the World Cup and skating races of the FIS Marathon Cup, the Nordic Number One has now also closed the gap in the SWIX Ski Classics races thanks to the new big-name signings in the long-distance team. Thomas Drindl, Head of the Nordic Division at Fischer Sports, is understandably delighted about the new signings in the team: "We are proud that two of the most successful ski marathon athletes of recent years have decided in favour of Fischer skis and boots. I am convinced that together we will continue the successful track record. Additionally we are sure that these two top athletes will be a signal to the next generation of racers in the ski marathon scene."
